After match comments

Head coach of team Ukraine Sergey Kovalets:

– Today there was a good title: Ukraine – Russia. Good match, with supporters. And we were lucky to score our moments. In the rest, the game was equal and both spectators on the tribune and TV watchers must have enjoyed it.

– Early goals in this match were deciding. Were there any other factors of success for you?

– We had quite good team working. The team created one or two moments by the 10-12th minute during the whole tournament. And here we scored two at once. Well, and of course we were supported by the Minister of Sports of Ukraine and the head coach of Ukrainian national team wished us good luck. This worked in some sense, too. And we had an excursion around St. Petersburg before the final - wonderful city.

– Can you give an estimation to Alexandr Tkachenko? He was "digging" all the balls. I've counted about seven moments when he saved his goal area from unavoidable goal.

– If you watched all our matches you must have noted that we tried to let all the players play. It's only on such tournaments and in such matches that we have an opportunity to test young players, risky though it might be. In quarterfinal and semifinal we had another goalkeeper. And he was quite successful. But in this age they are still not quite stable and we have to give them a chance to test themselves.

Head coach of team Russia Nikolay Pisarev:

– It is a biting defeat for us. It's very biting. We were worse prepared than our opponent. Congratulations to team Ukraine.

– There was not the main lineup of your team. What is the reason?

– We don't have main lineup, or, rather, all players of our staff are main: some plays more, some less. Also you should note tiredness and injuries. The Final was the sixth game for 10 days. We came to this match not with perfect conditions and, frankly speaking, there were those players on the pitch who could play.

– If there were a call from minister of Sport Vitaliy Mutko with words of support, would you play better?

– Vitaliy Leontyevich supports us much. He is interested in our results. He had come to previous Commonwealth Cups and if there had been a call from him, for sure, it would have helped.

– There will be a detailed analysis of the game, but what can you say about any conclusions after this defeat and the whole tournament?

– I have only good impressions after this Cup. Final will be analyzed for sure. Obviously, it is hard to talk about any conclusions in hot pursuit. I'm satisfied that we had a possibility to watch these players. Defeat will give much worthy lesson than victory in this age. We have won two finals of this Cup in previous years. But not all the players, whom we planned, have come to adult national team. That is why I see now more perspectives in spite of defeat.

– What was the reason of moving Manzon to the center and Bolov to the wing? It could be useful to play with two forwards with the score 0:2, didn't it?

– We play a certain scheme in the match and Bolov had to move to the wing. We do not used to play with two forwards, we play with one.
