About the tournament
12 teams (players born in 1993 and younger) will take part in XXII International football tournament "Commonwealth Cup 2014".
The Tournament will be staged in Saint Petersburg from 24 of January 2014 till 2 of February 2014.
The Format of the Tournament
The Tournament is held in two stages.
On the first stage 12 participating teams are split into 3 groups with 4 teams in each, and each team play each of the other teams once.
The ranking of the teams on the first stage round shall be made up basing on the overall points each team acquired (3 points for win, 1 point for a draw, 0 point for a defeat) in those matches.
In case of equal number of points with two or more teams the following criteria will be taken into account in the mentioned order:
- the largest number of wins in all matches;
- the results of the matches between each other (number of points, superior goals difference, number of scored goals);
- superior goal difference from all matches;
- Higher number of goals scored in all matches;
- the fewest number of disciplinary penalties (warning - 1 point, sending-off - 3 points).
In case of equality of all these criteria teams' places are determined by drawing lots.
On the second stage teams that are 1st or 2nd in their groups and also two best 3rd places are playing for places from 1st to 8th using the play-off system until the final allocation of the positions.
Best 3rd places are defined according to following criteria in the mentioned order:
- By the maximum amount of points;
- Superior goal difference from all matches;
- Higher number of goals scored in all matches;
- In case of equality of all these criteria teams' places are determined by drawing lots.
Pairs of opponents in matches of ¼ final are settled in the following way:
1st place in Group A – 3rd place in Group B/C
1st place in Group B – 3rd place in Group A/C
1st place in Group C – 2nd place in Group A
2nd place in Group B – 2nd place in Group C
If a third-place teams are from the Group A and the Group B, the winner of the Group A meets the third team from the Group B, and the winner of the Group B meets the third team from the Group A.
If a third-place teams are from the Group A and the Group C, the winner of the Group A meets the third team from the Group C, and the winner of the Group B meets the third team from the Group A.
If a third-place teams are from the Group B and the Group C, the winner of the Group A meets the third team from the Group B, and the winner of the Group B meets the third team from the Group C.
Fourth place teams in their groups and worst team with 3rd place are playing for places from 9th to 12th according to play-off system until the final allocation of the positions.
Pairs of opponents in play-off matches for 9-12 places are settled in the following way:
4th place in group A – 4th place in group C;
4th place in group B – worst 3rd place team;
If a worst 3rd place team is the team from group B, pairs are settled in the following way:
4th place in group A – 3rd place in group B;
4th place in group B – 4th place in group C.
In case of a draw after the end of the regular time in the play-off matches and in final match the winner will be determined by kicks from the penalty according to the Laws of the Game.
